What to Do When You Start Having Ignition Issues

If you’re like most motorists, you like the new features that many of the new cars offer. Why not enjoy the luxury of driving since you have to be in your car anyway. Since your vehicle is a mechanical machine, it is bound to experience problems every now and then. If you drive long enough, you’re going to experience some unpleasant moments involving your vehicle. Many problems occur when you are not having routine maintenance performed on your vehicle. Car problems is a huge reason people end up in financial ruins, because they are spending all of their money trying to repair their car. As if this weren’t enough, you may experience trouble with your ignition. Sometimes people will put their key in the ignition, turn it and nothing happens. If you experience a problem with your key being stuck in your ignition, you can always rely on Gaffney Locksmith in Gaffney, South Carolina. Our locksmiths would never suggest that you just rip out the key from theignition, this will make the problem far worse then it is now. If your key looks fine, it doesn’t always mean that it is. You’re key might be slightly bent but you are unable to see it with your own eyes. Sometimes the key may be cut incorrectly. This would certainly make it difficult for you to get the key back out of the ignition. Just remain calm and think aobut what your options might be. We’re here to provide you with some scenarios.

When your car is still running, these are some steps that you can take to get your key out of the ignition:

  • Inspect the gear – Your car needs to be in the parked position. If it is still in the drive position, it would be difficult to remove the key from your ignition.

  • Loosen up the key – If you do not want your key to break in the ignition, you must be careful about how you try to remove it. Gently wiggle the key until you loosen it up and it just slides out.

  • Evaluate the dashboard – Sometimes the gear shift on the dashboard is off. Again, you can should check to make sure the gear indicator is in the park position.

When you have turned your car off and it is in the parked position, here are some things you can do to remove your key from the ignition.

  • Check your car battery – There doesn’t have to be anything wrong with your ignition for it to hold on to your key and not let go. You have to consider whether or not your cars battery is dead. If the battery is dead then your ignition will not let go of your key. When you contact a locksmith one of the first things that we will do is check to see if the battery is dead. In some cases, this one thing will prevent your car from being stolen.

  • Evalute the key position – If you have an older car that has an older key cylinder, it can sometimes go into the ignition incorrectly, causing the key to get stuck in the ignition.

  • Loosen up Your key – One way that many people have said they have been able to get their key out of the ignition is to wiggle the key so that it would naturally slide out.
